To determine: The overall reaction for the production of α-Ketoglutarate from pyruvate and to identify the source of the reactant.
Introduction:
The α-Ketoglutarate plays a vital role in the metabolism and physiology of cells. It is produced from combination of oxaloacetate and pyruvate or glucose. This is a very important intermediate of citric acid cycle. For oxidation of amino acids, glucose and fatty acids, the presence of α-Ketoglutarate is mandatory.
