Given:

The speed of the hydrogen atom in a galaxy is v=6.55×106m/s .

Wavelength emitted by hydrogen atom is λ=486nm .

Formula used:

The Doppler shift in the wavelength of light emitted by hydrogen atom moving away from Earth is

  (λobsλ)=vcλ........(1)

Here, λobs is the observed wavelength of hydrogen atom from the Earth, λ is the actual wavelength of hydrogen atom in a galaxy, v is the speed of hydrogen atom in a galaxy moving away from earth and c is the velocity of light.

Calculation:

Substitute 6.55×106m/s for v , 3×108ms-1 for c and 486nm for λ in equation (1)

  (λobsλ)=vcλλobs=vcλ+λλobs=λ(vc+1)

  λobs=486nm(6.55×106m/s3×108m/s+1)λobs=486×109×(6.55×106m/s3×108m/s+1)λobs=496.61nm

Conclusion:

Hence, the observed wavelength is λobs=496.61nm .
