Concept explainers
Interpretation:
Several examples of proteins must be given having protective functions in the body.
Concept Introduction:
Antibodies are proteins which prevent our body from infection by foreign particles or microorganisms.
Answer to Problem 21A
Examples of proteins (Immunoglobulins) which have protective functions in the body are IgG, IgA, IgD, IgE and IgM.
Explanation of Solution
Antibodies are protein by nature. These are glycoproteins. These prevent our body from infection. If any bacteria, virus or any other microorganism enters in our body then a protein is produced in our body against the foreign particle. This glycoprotein is an antibody.
Many antibodies are produced in our body to develop immunity.
One important example is IgG (Immunoglobulin G). Other examples are IgA, IgD, IgE and IgM.
