Concept introduction: Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. They bind together to form large chain molecules of high molecular masses known as proteins. Aliphatic and aromatic amino acids are non-polar in nature and interact mainly by hydrophobic interactions and vanderwaals forces. Amino acids which are acidic and basic in nature interact through charge-charge interactions and ionic bonds as they are charged molecules and those contain functional groups also interact through hydrogen bonding as they are polarized. These interactions are useful to maintain the tertiary structure of proteins.

Explanation

The interaction that occurs between the side chains of the amino acids i.e. cysteine and cysteine are covalent interaction.

Cysteine , are amino acids having -thiol group in their side chain. The interaction between two molecules of Cysteine occurs through covalent bonding. The covalent bond holds the two amino acids and occurs when the carboxylic group of one amino acid reacts with the amino group of the other amino acid releasing a water molecule.
