Chapter 24, Problem 7RQ

How does penicillin G cure bacterial infection?

Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark
To determine

The effect of Penicillin G in curing bacterial infection.

Answer to Problem 7RQ

Penicillin G kill bacteria by inactivating receptor sites responsible for strengthening the bacterial cell wall.

Explanation of Solution

Penicillin G is a kind of antibiotic which is used as medicinal drug used to kill bacteria and hence helps in curing bacterial infection. The penicillin G was among the earliest discovered antibiotics. The working action of Penicillin G is similar to that of the compounds named as cephalosporin. Both cephalosporin and Penicillin G inactivates the receptor sites which is utilized by the bacteria to strengthen its cell wall and facilitate the growth of bacteria and hence the bacterial infection. As the penicillin G inactivates the receptor sites which in turn do not help bacteria to grow and hence helps in curing bacterial infections.

Conclusion:

Therefore, penicillin G kill bacteria by inactivatingreceptor sites responsible for strengthening the bacterial cell wall.
