Interferons are the proteins which are produced by the host cells in response to infection of the virus. These are members of the cytokine family. Examples of interferon are IFN-β and IFN-α. Interferons are considered as part of the innate immunity. Interferons are specific for the particular species of host. These are non-specific for viruses.
