The process of fusion of two haploid cells, the egg, and the sperm, to form a diploid cell is termed as the fertilization. The diploid cell formed in this process is zygote. In humans, fertilization occurs in the ampulla of fallopian tubes in females. By the process of gametogenesis sperm and eggs are produced in males and females respectively.
