Concept introduction: Polarity means the separation of charges. A molecule is said to be polar if it has a positive or a negative charge or has a net dipole moment while a non-polar molecule is neutral and has no net dipole moment.

Explanation

CF4 and XeF4 are non polar molecules because they have zero dipole moment while SF4 is polar as it has a net dipole moment.

A molecule is said to be polar if it has a positive or a negative charge or has a dipole moment while a non-polar molecule is neutral and has zero dipole moment.

Polarity is obtained due to the difference in the electronegativities of the constituent atoms in a molecule.

Even though, CF in CF4 and XeF in XeF4 have electronegativity difference but the net dipole moment is zero due to their symmetrical structure as shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2.
