Chapter 41, Problem 5TY
Summary Introduction

Introduction:

Hemorrhage is the loss of blood from a damaged blood vessel. It may decrease oxygen and nutrient delivery to the cells. Blood volume and blood pressure are closely related and directly proportional to each other. Cardiac output is the volume of blood pumped from the heart per minute. Cardiac output or CO is also directly proportional to the blood pressure.

Blood pressure is usually given as the ratio of the maximum pressure (systolic pressure) to the minimum pressure (diastolic pressure). For example a typical value for this ratio for a human would be 120/70, where the pressures are in mm Hg (millimeters of mercury, SG = 13.6). What would these pressures be in kPa (kilo Pascals)?: (a) systolic pressure (kPa), (b) diastolic pressure (kPa).
If cardiac output is 16L/min during jogging, and 25% of total blood flow is being diverted to skeletal muscle, how much blood is being delivered to skeletal muscle in L/min?   a. 2 b. 5 c. 6 d. 1 e. 4 f. 3
5 29.At maximal exercise, a recreationally active individual has an a-vO2 difference of 0.16 mL O2/mL of blood, a stroke volume of 122 mL, and a heart rate of 191 bpm. What is their V̇O2max? A. 3960 mL/min B. 4150 mL/min C. 3620 mL/min D. 3730 mL/min
