Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The three-dimensional formulas for isomers of the given drugs are to be drawn.
Concept introduction:
A dashed wedge is used to represent a bond, which projects behind the plane of the paper.
A solid wedge is used to represent a bond, which projects out of the plane of the paper.
An ordinary line is used to represent a bond, which lies in the plane of the paper.
In order to draw the three-dimensional formula of molecules, first, draw as many carbon atoms in the plane of the paper as possible with the help of ordinary lines. Then, the substituent groups or hydrogen will be represented by using dashed or solid wedge bonds.
When the order of progression from the group of highest priority to that of the next highest priority is clockwise, it is said to be the
When the order of progression from the group of highest priority to that of the next highest priority is anticlockwise, then it is said to be the

- A) Considering compounds 2a through 2l, identify: 1)one pair of geometric isomers 2)two pairs of enantiomers and 3)three pairs of identical molecules B) Give the names, including the configurations, of each of the geometric isomers and of each of the enantiomers identified in 1A and 1B. Draw the relevant structures. C) Sort compounds 2a, 2b, 2c, 2f and 2k in order of increasing solubility in water and briefly justify.arrow_forwardgive the degree of unsaturation of the compounds: Vanillin(C8H8O3) and ethyl ethocyacetate (C6H12O3). and draw their structuresarrow_forwardPyrethrin II and pyrethrosin are two natural products isolated from plants of the chrysanthemum family. Pyrethrin II is a natural insecticide and is marketed as such. Q, Show that the bicyclic ring system of pyrethrosin is composed of three isoprene units.arrow_forward
- (b) Classify the following alcohols in order of increasing ease of acid-catalyzed dehydration.Justify your answers.arrow_forwardThe global consumption of synthetic dyes is increasing due to increase in demand invarious processing/manufacturing industries. Analyze why among the large number of organic molecules, only relatively few moleculesare considered as dyes. Select any one dye which is used in industry and give justificationof type of the dye, its application in the industry and related reactions.arrow_forwardN-methylpiperidine has the conformation shown. What does this tell you about the relative steric requirements of a methyl group versus an electron lone pair?arrow_forward
- On being heated with a solution of sodium ethoxide in ethanol, compound A (C7H15Br) yielded a mixture of two alkenes B and C, each having the molecular formula C7H14. Catalytic hydrogenation of the major isomer B or the minor isomer C gave only 3-ethylpentane. - A compound C4H11N is known from its reactivity andspectroscopic properties to have no hydrogen atomsattached directly to the nitrogen atom. Write all structuralformulas consistent with this informationarrow_forwardCompound A(C10H12O)gives off oxygen on treatment with sodium metal and also decolorizes Br2 in CCl4 to give organic compound B. Compound A on treatment with I2 in NaOH gives iodoform and salt C which after acidification gives a white solid D(C7H6O2). In your answer, provide examples and be sure to discuss how Huckel's Rule applies, and what it means to be anti-aromatic versus non-aromatic. When providing specific examples to demonstrate the requirements that you list, describe the delocalized pi electrons and sp2 hybridization.
