Chapter 6.3, Problem 2.1RQ
Summary Introduction

To identify: The types of other companies than medical clinics could benefit from the on-demand delivery technology.

Case summary: In the given case, clinics in R struggled to stock the right amount of blood products for any emergency medical care because the product is not one-size-fit-for-all products. The clinics tried to forecast the amount and type of blood products to keep in hand to deal with emergencies. Refrigerated blood lasts about 6 weeks but the controlling inventory did not expire and it went to waste which is critical. Transportation of blood was also a problem for clinics because a mountainous country with inferior roads and infrastructure can’t transport the blood products effectively. Many clinics in the country were three-hour long drive away from blood banks therefore, many times doctors had to fly patients to national hospitals rather than waiting for blood delivery. Z partnered with U to change the delivery to a drone system and Z utilizes the fastest commercial delivery of blood in the world which reached doctors within forty to forty-five minutes. This method is an on-demand delivery system that reduces the wastage cost. Fixing wings to the drone in the style of the airplane makes it resilient in bad weather also. But this drone cannot land, the products are landed through parachutes. With a single charge, these drones travel more than ninety miles. many clinics started to use this delivery system and the flights reached five hundred from fifty. The government of the country R also welcomed this technology or program.
