Concept explainers
In Exercises C. 77-C.83. we have repeated the information from Exercises C.47–C.53. For each exercise, use Procedure C.2 on page C-44 or Procedure C.3 on page C-51 to perform the appropriate multiple comparisons using a family confidence level of 0.95,
C.81 Hospital Stays. The U.S. National Center for Health Statistics collects data on length of stay in noninstitutional, short-stay hospitals by sex and age. Results are published in Vital and Health Statistics.
Independent random samples of Americans were taken to compare the lengths of stay (in days) for males and females in four age groups (15–24 years, 25–34 years, 35–14 years, and 45–64 years). The data are provided in the table in Exercise C.51 on page C-36. Output C. 15 on page C-38 shows computer output obtained for a two-way ANOVA on these data and also supplies a table of cell and marginal means.

Suppose that in a follow-up study of 40 staff nurses in Tampa and 50 staff nurses in Dallas you obtain the following results. Tampa n1 = 40 X1 = $56,100 S1 = $6000 Dallas n2 = 50 X2 = $59,400 S2 = $7000 Complete the confidence interval of the data setarrow_forwardIn a situation where the sample size was decreased from 39 to 29 in a normally distributed data set, what would be the impact on the confidence interval?arrow_forward
