A can of soft drink (335 mL) provides 130 Calories. A bottle of mixed berry juice (295 mL) provides 630 kJ. Which provides the greater total energy’? Which provides the greater energy per milliliter?

Joule: The joule is related directly to the units used for mechanical energy.

Calorie: The calorie is an older energy unit.  It is defined as the energy transferred as heat that is required to raise the temperature of 1g of substance by one degree Celsius.

Explanation

As the given two energy units are different, convert calorie into joule or vice-versa.

Greater total energy:

Conversion of units:Given:630 kJ = 280 ×103JKnown: 1Calorie =4.184joules (J).Whereas,630 ×103J,630 ×103J×1Calorie.4.184joules (J) = 150.57 kcal.

The calculated energy in calorie is 150.57 kcal.  By comparing two values 130 cal and 150.57 kcal, 150.57 kcal berry juice provides greater energy.
