Summary Introduction
Interpretation: An initial layout of five departments and a from-to flow data chart are given in Figure 11-34. Assuming that departments A and D are in fixed locations and cannot be moved, and also that the objective is to minimize the total distance traveled, then the layout recommended by CRAFT for departments B, C and E needs to be given.

Concept Introduction: The full form of CRAFT is Computerized Relative Allocation of Facilities Technique and it uses a pair wise exchange algorithm for calculating the optimal results and this tool is used to enhance the existing facilities for a layout.
