Chapter 12, Problem 60SA
Summary Introduction

To review:

The function of the enzyme ACC1 and its regulation.

Introduction:

The process of fatty acid synthesis occurs in two steps, that is, by the synthesis of palmitate in sequential addition from growing fatty acyl chain, and by the formation of the compound malonyl-CoA with help ofACC1 enzyme. ACC1, or acetyl-CoA carboxylase 1, is a biotin-dependent enzymethat catalyzes the carboxylation of acetyl-CoA to malonyl-CoA, which acts as the substrate for fatty acid synthesis.
