Introduction:
Fats are a macronutrient that the body needs to function, just like the other macronutrients like protein and carbohydrates. These molecules are composed of long chains of carbon and hydrogen. The breakdown of these molecules provides the necessary energy to a cell to function. It also works to insulate the body against cold. Fats are important because they are components of certain messengers, like hormones, and membrane proteins, and also help solubilize fat-soluble vitamins.
