Explanation of Solution

Introduction:

The heating curve of the substance is the graphical representation of the variation in the phases of the substance with the variation in temperature. It describes the behavior of the substance at different temperatures.

When heating of the glass starts then the glass undergoes to softening phase. In the softening phase, glass shows elastic behavior. Further, heating changes the state of the glass from solid to liquid. The glass change into crystalline form during melting and then goes to the liquid state.

The water in ice remains in the solid-state. If the temperature of the ice increases, ice converts from a solid phase to a liquid phase. The temperature of the liquid phase starts rising when complete ice changes into the liquid phase and temperature rise to the boiling point of water. The liquid phase of the water converts into a gaseous phase due to further heating at the boiling point.

The melting point and boiling points of the glass are more than the melting point and boiling points of water. So, the heating curve of the water is sharper than the heating curve of the glass.

Conclusion:

Thus, the heating curve of the water is sharper than the heating curve of the glass.
