Chapter 15, Problem 30RQ
Summary Introduction

To review:

The organism that excretes the following nitrogenous forms

(a) Uric acid

(b.) Urea

(c.) Allantoate

(d.) NH4+

(e.) Allantoin

Introduction:

Nucleotides, the precursor of nucleic acids (DNA and RNA), are of two types. The classification is done on the basis of their structure. These include purines and pyrimidines. Purines are adenine and guanine while pyrimidines include thymine, cytosin, end uracil. These nucleotides are degraded to maintain the turnover of the nucleic acids and when there is an error in replication, transcription, or translation. Purines degrade to generate uric acid while pyrimidines degrade to ammonia.
