Introduction:
When light passes from optically denser to a medium which is rarer medium that its angle of incidence is more than the critical angle for the medium, it experiences total internal reflection and no refraction takes place.
In a cracked windshield, light travels from the glass to airand when incident angle is more than the critical angle for the medium, it experiences total internal reflection and no refraction takes place. Because of the total internal reflection causes the crack to shine.
