Chapter 22, Problem 27P
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The structural formulas for all the isomers of molecular formula C7H9N, and the acceptable name for the each formulas is to be given; the strongest base among the four isomers is to be identified; the isomer that gives N-nitrosoamine when reacts with sodium nitrite and hydrochloric acid is to be determined; the isomer that undergoes nitrosation of their benzene ring when it reacts with sodium nitrite and hydrochloric acid is to be identified.

Concept Introduction:

The systematic naming of organic compound is given by IUPAC nomenclature. The naming of organic compound is done such that the structure of organic compound is correctly interpreted from the name. If the molecular formula of two compounds is same but their atoms are connected in different ways, then they are known as constitutional or structural isomers.

The pKa value is directly related to the basic strength of the compound. The major factors that contribute to the basic strength are s character, inductive effect and polarity.

The conversion of organic compounds into nitroso derivative is known as nitrosation. In nitrosation, compound contains RNO functionality. The replacement or substitution of one functional group with another different functional group in any chemical reaction is termed as substitution reaction. The replacement or substitution of one functional group with another different functional group in any chemical reaction is termed as substitution reaction. The substitution reaction involves the replacement of one functional group by other functional group.

The sex attractant of the housefly has the formula C23H46. When treated with warm potassium permanganate, this pheromone gives two products: CH3(CH2)12COOH and CH3(CH2)7COOH. Suggest a structure for this sex attractant. Explainwhich part of the structure is uncertain
3 Compare the basicity of amines with other common bases, and explain how theirbasicity varies with hybridization and aromaticity.
Bisphenol A is widely used as a building block in polymer synthesis and is found in the polycarbonate hard plastics of reusable drink containers, DVDs, cell phones, and other consumer goods. Bisphenol A is reported to have estrogenic activity, and its widespread occurrence in our environment is a potential concern. Describe one or two biochemical experiments that could be done to compare the activity of bisphenol A with that of its estradiol, its structural relative.
