Concept Introduction:
Galactosemia happens when an enzyme, known as 'galactose-1-phosphate uridyl transferase' is either not working properly or missing. The job of this enzyme is to alter galactose to glucose. If treated, the extra galactose will disturb various parts of the body and, with time, might be dangerous.
