Chapter 42.4, Problem 3EQ
Summary Introduction

To determine: An experiment to test the hypothesis that acetylcholine is Loewi’s proposed vaghusstoff, using a heart (without its vagus nerve), some acetylcholine, and an acetylcholine receptor blocker.

Introduction: Otto Loewi, a German physiologist, through his experiments, showed that there is some non-electrical entity that is released into the surrounding of the electrically excited heart that results in the desired action on the heart muscles. Experimental studies by Loewi opened the doors for chemical neurotransmitter studies.
