Question
Chapter 42.3, Problem 2CC
Summary Introduction
To determine:
Major advantage of saltatory conduction.
Introduction:
Conduction of nerves through myelinated neurons that involve action of voltage gated Na+ channels is known as saltatory conduction. This type of conduction is present in vertebrate organisms that possess myelinated as well as unmyelinated neurons. In a salutatory conduction, nodes of Ranvier play a major role because they are the site for voltage – gated Na+ channels.
