To suggest:
A reason why packets of proteins collected in a vacuole might merge with lysosomes.
Introduction:
Each cell has different organelle to perform specific tasks. A cell is involved in energy transformations, food digestion, excretion of wastes and cell division. One of the main functions of the cell is also to produce proteins. Proteinsare synthesized in endoplasmic reticulum and are then transferred to Golgi apparatus.Golgi apparatus packages proteins into sacs called vesicles.
Answer to Problem 30A
Some proteins may collect in vacuoles as waste product. Lysosomes have enzymes to digest food and wastes. So a lysosome may fuse with the vacuole containing packets of proteins so as to digest the proteins inside the vacuole by releasing their enzymes into the vacuole.
Explanation of Solution
A vacuole is a sac like structure that can store food, enzymes and other materials needed by a cell. Some vacuoles also store waste products. A lysosome is an organelle in a cell that contains substances that digest excess or worn out organelles, food particles, bacteria and viruses. Lysosomes can fuse with vacuoles and dispense their enzymes into the vacuole digesting the wastes inside.
