Chapter 7.3, Problem 4TQ
Summary Introduction

To review:

The reason for the reproductive synchronization in amino acid deprived conditions.

Introduction:

The process of copying nuclear DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) in the cells to make multiple copies is called synchronous replication. The reproduction where fertile mating across a population is clustered temporarily is called synchronized reproduction. Usually in the presence of amino acid, bacteria do not show this halt or clusterization and hence, their reproduction is said to be asynchronous.

After 3 rounds of replication, what percent of the DNA molecules will contain only 15N? You take a sample of bacteria with DNA that contains only 14N and allow them to replicate in a medium that contains only 15N.  After 3 rounds of replication, what percent of the DNA molecules will contain only 15N?  Enter your answer as a whole number without the percent sign.  For example, 5% would be entered as 5 and 37% would be entered as 37.
Does E. coli chromosomal replication always start at one particular site? What is called? If you were given the DNA sequence of E. coli chromosome, would you be able to identify where E. coli chromosomal replication starts? What is the end of E. coli chromosome replication?
What are some of the ways that organisms use to ensure the fidelity of DNA replication? Why is it important that the fidelity of DNA replication is an evolutionary balance between faithful replication and the existence of some errors?  Escherichia coli and other bacteria methylate adenines on the original strand to distinguish the original strand from the newly replicated strand of DNA. Why is this distinction important?
