Concept explainers
To write:The relationship between the vocabulary terms of dormancyand germination.
Introduction:Fertilization is just the beginning of a long phase that concludes finally with seed forming. A seed in anthophytes is part of a fruit that grows from the ovary, and also from other organs of the flower.
Explanation of Solution
When the embryo in a seed begins to grow, then the process is said to be germination. Several factors that affect germination, including the presence of oxygen and water, and temperature. Germination starts when a seed soaks water. As the cell consumes water, the seed swells which can break the seed coat.
Many seeds formed at the end of the growing season enter dormancy which is a period of little or no development. Dormancy is an adaptation that raises the seeds' survival rate when exposed to harsh conditions.
Thus, it concludes that some seeds must germinate within a period of time, otherwise they will not germinate at all. Dormancy is a period of little or no development.
