Explanation of Solution

Given:

The sum of four times a number and six times a second number is36.

And the difference of five times the second number and three times the first number is 49.

Calculation:

Let the first number be x and second number be y .

According to the question,

  4x+6y=365y−3x=49.

Since none of the expressions is same on both the equation, therefore multiply by 5 in 1st equation and multiply by 4 in 2nd equation and then equate:

  5(4x+6y)=36×520x+30y=1806(5y−3x)=49×6−18x+30y=294

Now, subtract the equation

  20x+30y=180−18x+30y=294+         −            −_     38x=−114     ∴x=−11438⇒x=3

Now, substitutes the value of x in 2nd equation, then:

  4x+6y=364(3)+6y=36                        {∵x=3}12+6y=36∴6y=24∴y=246=4

Hence, numbers according to the given system of equation is x=3;y=4.
