Question
Chapter 37, Problem 6TY
Summary Introduction
Introduction:
The antidiuretic hormone is involved in the amount of water management inside the body. This hormone is secreted by the hypothalamus and pituitary gland found above the kidneys. The epithelial cell of the collecting duct is very permeable which helps in the retaining of water and is regulated by ADH. The presence If ADH inside the blood increases the number of water channels termed as aquaporins.

Multiple Choice
It is the endogenic form of ADH.
It contains ADH and oxytocin in a ratio of 10:1.
It is metabolized and excreted by the liver and kidneys.
It is administered intranasally to stabilize patients' fluid balance.
When antidiuretic hormone (ADH) levels are low this causes ________.
less of the water reaching the collecting ducts to be reabsorbed
more aquaporins to be activated to increase the reabsorption of water
vasodilation of the efferent arteriole to increase the glomerular filtration rate
the urine to have a very high concentration of ions and nitrogenous wastes

- As the text noted, two-thirds of the water and solutes that the body reclaims by reabsorption in nephrons occurs in the proximal tubule. Proximal tubule cells have large numbers of mitochondria and demand a great deal of oxygen. Explain why.arrow_forwardFatty tissue holds the kidneys in place. Extremely rapid weight loss may cause this tissue to shrink so that the kidneys slip from their normal position.
