Chapter 43, Problem 5TYK
Summary Introduction

Introduction: The immune system of the human is divided into two types, innate immune system, and the adaptive immune system. Both the immune systems give protection against various disease-causing microbes. Different cell types and proteins are involved in immune mechanisms. The types of cells that are involved in immunity are lymphocytes (T & B lymphocytes), neutrophils, monocytes, natural killer cells, and macrophages. In response to pathogen recognition, these cells secrete a variety of proteins, which act against pathogens.

What is innate immunity? List the four types of barriers which protect the body from the entry of the foreign agents.
Choose which among the following is the correct sequence of the three lines of defense against pathogens?   A.barriers that exclude pathogens → adaptive immunity → innate immunity B.barriers that exclude pathogens → innate immunity → adaptive immunity C.adaptive immunity → barriers that exclude pathogens → innate immunity D.innate immunity → adaptive immunity → barriers that exclude pathogens
Contrast cell – mediated immunity with antibody – mediated immunity. Make sure to note: which cells are involved, how they are involved, and the end result of each type of immunity. Why is adaptive immunity called an “antigen-specific response”?
