A company manager wants to compare the satisfaction levels of his customers from two stores belonging to his company. According to his research, 249 out of 300 people are satisfied with shop A, and 348 out of 400 people are satisfied with shop B. Which of the following hypothesis states that there is a significant difference between customer satisfaction levels?

A research article on the effect of multitasking on grade performance describes an experiment in which 62 undergraduate business students were randomly assigned to one of two experimental groups. Students in one group were asked to listen to a lecture but were told that they were permitted to use cell phones to send text messages during the lecture. Students in the second group listened to the same lecture but were not permitted to send text messages. Afterwards, students in both groups took a quiz on material covered in the lecture. Data from this experiment are summarized in the accompanying table.
In 2010, Seery, Holman, & Silver found that individuals with some history of adversity report better mental health and well-being compared to people with little to no history of adversity. In an attempt to examine this phenomenon, a researcher surveys a group of college students to determine the negative life events they experienced in the last 5 years and their current feeling of well-being.
Participants:
With 5-10 negative experiences With 2 or fewer negative experiences
n=7 n=7
Well-being score of M=48 Well-being score of M=41

1. State the hypotheses both experimental and statistical
2. Do the results indicate significantly different reports of Well-being? Use a two-tailed test with a=.05. Please show work and state your decision regarding the H0.

- The management of the Seaside Golf Club regularly monitors the golfers on its course for speed of play. Suppose a random sample of golfers was taken in 2005 and another random sample of golfers was selected in 2006. Conduct the appropriate hypothesis test at the 0.10 level of significance. Assume that the management of the club is willing to accept the assumption that the populations of playing times for each year are approximately normally distributed.arrow_forwardWhich of these is a manifestation of null hypothesis? a. - A U.S. Food Survey showed that Americans routinely eat beef in their diet. Suppose that in a study of 49 consumers in Illinois and 64 consumers in Texas the following results were obtained from two samples regarding average yearly beef consumption: Illinois Texas = 49 = 64 = 54.1lb = 60.4lb S1 = 7.0 S2 = 8.0 Formulate a hypothesis so that, if the null hypothesis is rejected, we can conclude that the average amount of beef eaten annually by consumers in Illinois is significantly less than that eaten by consumers in Texas.arrow_forward(a) The researcher is concerned that older persons may not be knowledgeable of the COFLU-20. As such, he is interested in investigating the association between the age of the respondents and their knowledge level. Table 2 below shows the knowledge level of respondents, by age group. Conduct a test, at the 5% level of significance, to determine whether the data provided sufficient evidence to conclude that an association exists between age group and knowledge level. (i) State the hypotheses to be tested: H0: H1: Calculate: (ii) state the degrees of freedom for this test (iii) the p-value for this test, given that the chi-square test statistic, c2, is 11.029. (iv) state the conclusion for the test. Give reason for your answer.arrow_forwardA researcher hypothesizes that personality type is related to heart disease. No heart disease heart disease total Type A 32 18 50 Type B 128 22 150 total 160 40 Do these data support that there is a significant relationship between personality type and heart disease? - Exercise 1.5 introduces a study where researchers studying the rela- tionship between honesty, age, and self-control conducted an experiment on 160 children between the ages of 5 and 15. The researchers asked each child to toss a fair coin in private and to record the outcome (white or black) on a paper sheet, and said they would only reward children who report white. Half the students were explicitly told not to cheat and the others were not given any explicit instructions. Differences were observed in the cheating rates in the instruction and no instruction groups, as well as some differences across children’s characteristics within each group. (a) Identify the population of interest and the sample in this study. (b) Comment on whether or not the results of the study can be generalized to the population, and if the findings of the study can be used to establish causal relationships.arrow_forwardA group of psychologists recently examined the how odor influences emotion between male and female. - Will improving customer service result in higher stock prices for the companies providing the better service? "When a company's satisfaction score has improved over the prior year's results and is above the national average (currently ), studies show its shares have a good chance of outperforming the broad stock market in the long run." The following satisfaction scores of three companies for the 4th quarters of two previous years were obtained from the American Customer Satisfaction Index. Assume that the scores are based on a poll of customers from each company. Because the polling has been done for several years, the standard deviation can be assumed to equal points in each case.arrow_forwardWill improving customer service result in higher stock prices for the companies providing the better service?
