Chapter 24.2, Problem 4COMQ
Summary Introduction
Introduction:
Protein microarrays are designed in the same way as DNA microarrays. The only difference between protein microarrays and DNA microarrays is that the silica or glass plated slide is dotted with proteins instead of DNA sequence. Protein microarrays are of two types, namely, antibody microarrays and functional protein microarrays.

Electrophoresis is a method used to sort proteins by their size. Why is a detergent added to the buffer?
a) Because SDS forms micelles in which the proteins can be transported through the gel in
b) Because SDS lowers the pH of the buffer
c) Because SDS denaturs the protein
d) Because smaller proteins move more slowly through the gel then
For what reasons is it important to know the structure of a protein?
a) Because then you can fold the protein as you want
b) Because it will be easier to predict its function then
c) Because then you can clone it better
d) Because then you can design medicines better
