Concept explainers
(a)
To determine:
The M and N allele frequencies for 1-year-old children and for adults.
Introduction:
The scientist Karl Landsteiner and Philip Levine have identified the glycoprotein molecule usually present on the surface of the red blood cells. The glycoprotein is encoded by the gene present in chromosome 4. This glycoprotein acts as a native antigen which provides immunological and biological identity to the humans. There are two glycoproteins exists in the human body which is denoted as M and N. The individual exhibit either one or both the glycoprotein.
(b)
To determine:
Whether the allele frequencies are in equilibrium in this population.
