Concept explainers
a.
To determine:
What is the relationship that exists between Cro-magnons and modern Europeans and the relationship between Neanderthals and Cro-magnons.
Concept introduction:
Neanderthals are an extinct species who were classified under the genus Homo. Earliest fossils of Neanderthals were found in Europe that implies they originated in Europe and they migrated into southwest and Central Asia. Early homospaiens who lived nearly 40,000 years ago are Cro-magnons. These people had the ability to use symbolic language to talk. Mitochondrial DNA is used in this analysis because it is highly prone to mutation.
b.
To determine:
Whether the mitochondrial DNA of the Neanderthals made any contributions to the gene of the Cro-magnon or European’s gene pool.
