Concept Introduction:

Compounds consist of two or more different elements bound together and can be broken down into the elements. Chemical reactions are involved in the formation of compounds.

A mixture is made up of different elements and compounds. In the formation of mixtures, chemical reactions are not involved.

Valence electrons are the electrons present in the outermost orbital that participate in the bond formation.

Explanation of Solution

All matter is made up of atoms. Atoms combine to form compounds and compounds combine to form mixtures. Therefore, most of the substances are found in their compound or mixture form.

For example: water is a compound made of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom.
