Interpretation:

The better sense of smell of a dog needs to be explained with the help of receptor site theory.

Concept introduction:

As per receptor site theory smell of a substance is obtained when odoring molecule from the substance binds with the nasal receptor resulting a nerve impulse which reaches the brain.

Answer to Problem 6E

Dog has more number of nasal receptors than a person. That’s why dog has better sense of smell than a person.

Explanation of Solution

As dogs have huge number of nasal receptors so almost all types of molecules can be bound with the nasal receptor unlike a person who can smell only particular types of molecules for which nasal receptors are available.

Conclusion

As dogs have more number of nasal receptors, a dog has better sense of smell than a person.
