Explanation of Solution

A neutralization reaction takes place to neutralize acid and base to form salt and water. Here, reaction of acid and base takes place to form salt of conjugate base and acid and water.

This can be further explained by taking example of neutralization reaction of strong acid HCl and strong base NaOH.

The reaction can be represented as follows:

  HCl(aq)+NaOH(aq)NaCl(s)+H2O(l)

In the above reaction, HCl and NaOH undergo neutralization reaction to form NaCl salt and water. This resultant solution has pH 7 that is for neutral in nature.
