Glycolysis, as the term suggests, is the breakdown of a glucose molecule into two pyruvate molecules. This process occurs sequentially in steps and is catalyzed by different enzymes. Oxidative phosphorylation is a process that ends in the production of ATP by the oxidation of electron carriers. Glycolysis is a process that takes place inside the cytoplasm of the cell, while oxidative phosphorylation takes place in the mitochondria.
