  To explain: The meaning of the term “mutation rate.”

Introduction: Mutation is the change in the original nucleotide sequence of the DNA. During mutation, the nucleotide can be added, deleted or transformed. The change in the structure of the chromosome also leads to mutation. It can be heritable or non-heritable. If a mutation occurs in somatic cells, it is non-heritable whereas a mutation in germ cells is heritable and can affect generations. Mutation leads to different types of cancer.
