To define:
Compact bone, osteocytes, spongy bone, red bone marrow, yellow bone marrow, osteoblast, ossification, osteoclast, and ligament.
Explanation of Solution
Compact bone: It is the dense material, which is the hard part of the skeleton and it makes the cortex of a bone.
Osteocytes: It is defined as the terminal stage of differentiation of osteoblast located in a lacunae.
Spongy bone: Spongy bone is defined as less dense bones present at end of long bones, which provides flexibility and structural support.
Red bone marrow: It isa type of bone marrow that is involved in formation of red blood cells, platelets and white blood cells, generally found in longer bones.
Yellow bone marrow: It is a type of bone marrow that produce cartilage, fat and bones. It also helps in the fat storage in adipocytes.
Osteoblast: It is a cell that forms a new bone. They are immature cells of the bones and have one nucleus.
Ossification: It I process of production of the new bone, in which the maturation of the osteoblast takes place to form hard bone.
Osteoclast: It is a type of multinucleated bone cell, involved in the reabsorption of the old bones and have a major role in remodeling and growth of bones.
Ligament: It is a fibrous connective that joins two bones or cartilage together. It is mainly found at joints.
