To sequence:
The steps in the repair of fractured bone.
Introduction:
The total bones in the skeleton system of an adult are 206. The bones in the skeletal system are divided into two categories, appendicular skeleton and axial skeleton. The main function of this system is to provide movement, frame, and structure to the body.
Explanation of Solution
The sequence for repair of fractured bone is shown as below:
1. When the bone gets fractured then to reduce the pain, endorphins are released in that area.
2. Formation of fracture hematoma. At the site of fracture, blood vessels tear, leading to the formation of blood clot (hematoma).
3. Bone generation − After some days of fracture, capillaries grow in the hematoma. In this stage, fibrocartilaginous callus is formed.
4. Boney callus formation − In this stage, fibrocartilaginous callus is converted into spongy bone or bony callus. It lasts for 3-4 months.
5. Bone remodeling of callus − Osteoclasts reabsorb dead remains of original bone. Moreover, here spongy bone is replaced by compact bone around fracture area.
6. The healed fracture is witnessed by thick area on bone surface.
