Concept explainers
To model:
The structure and appearance of given muscle types along with their functions.
Introduction:
Muscle is very soft tissue and is found in most animals. The protein filaments found in muscles are actin and myosin filaments. These filaments slide over each other to produce muscular contraction. Three types of muscles in body are, smooth, skeletal, and cardiac muscle.
Explanation of Solution
Smooth muscle −
Smooth muscles are found in hollow organs like stomach and intestine. These muscles perform housekeeping functions in the body. These muscular walls help in the movement of food in GI tract. Smooth muscle folds in stomach and small intestine that help in absorption of food.
Skeletal muscle −
Skeletal muscles help the animals to move by their own will. They play important role in respiration and in maintaining balance and posture of the body.
Cardiac muscle −
Cardiac muscle is involuntary and striated muscle that is found in the heart only. This muscle helps the heart to pump blood.
