Concept introduction:
Hydroboration-oxidation reaction is the reaction in which an alkene reacts with borane in presence of a peroxide to yield primary alcohol. The reaction occurs by Anti-Markovnikov’s rule. An alkyne can be converted into an aldehyde or a ketone by mercuric-ion catalysed hydration reaction. After the protonation of the alkynyl carbon, the water attacks as the nucleophile and an enol is formed. Enol is unstable and converts into a stable aldehyde or ketone.

- 5) Compound A reacted with Mg in ether to give B. Compound B is with Ethyl bromide to give Ethyl cyclohexane. What are the structures of A and B?arrow_forwardDraw the organic product obtained by hydroboration-oxidation of each of the following alkenes: (a) trans-2-pentene, (b) 2-tert-butyl-3,3-dimethyl-1- butene, and (c) 1-methylcyclohexene. Having done this, draw the product of the acid-catalyzed hydration of these same alkenes. How do the reaction products differ?arrow_forwardAcid-catalyzed dehydration of 2,2-dimethyl-1-hexanol gave a number of isomeric alkenes including 2-methyl-2-heptene as shown in the following equation.(a) Write a stepwise mechanism for the formation of 2-methyl-2-heptene, using curved arrows to show the flow of electrons. (b) What other alkenes do you think are formed in this reaction?arrow_forward
- Draw the organic product obtained on treatment of each of the following two alkenes with bromine: (a) trans-2-pentene and (b) 1- methylcyclohexene. Having done this, draw the product of the reaction of these same alkenes with bromine in aqueous solution.arrow_forward(a) Cyclohexa-1,3-diene can be converted into a tetrasubstituted haloalkane when reacted with bromine in ether. Write a balanced chemical equation for the reaction that occurs and state the expected observation. (b) Compound A and B are alkenes with the same molecular formula C5H10. Compound A is a branched-chain alkene while compound B is a straight-chain alkene. The reaction between compound A with hydrogen bromide produces major product C which is optically active. (i) Draw TWO (2) possible structures for compound B. (ii) Outline the mechanism for the reaction between compound A with hydrogen bromide to form major product C. (iii) Name the product formed when compound A undergoes bromination reaction.arrow_forward3. (a) Draw the structure of 1-ethylcyclohexene (B). (b) Draw the structures of the two possible products that can result from treating B with hydrogen bromide and very briefly explain which one will be favoured). (c) Draw the curly arrow mechanism for the formation of the favoured productarrow_forward
- The name of the parent six-membered sulfur-containing heterocycle is thiane. It is numbered beginning at sulfur. Multiple incorporation of sulfur in the ring is indicated by the prefixes di-, tri-, and so on. (a) How many methyl-substituted thianes are there? Which ones are chiral? (b) Write structural formulas for 1,4-dithiane and 1,3,5-trithiane. (c) Which dithiane isomer (1,2-, 1,3-, or 1,4-) is a disulfide?(d) Draw the two most stable conformations of the sulfoxide derived from thiane.arrow_forward(B) a What alkane should be used to synthesize the 1- bromo -1- ethyl cyclohexane? Write a chemical reaction and explain b. Write a chemical reaction and name the product formed when 3- pentanol undergoes dehydration c. Comment on kinetic stability or thermodynamic stability of an organic compoundarrow_forwarda) When (Z)-3-methylhex-3-ene undergoes hydroboration–oxidation, two isomeric products are formed. Give their structures, and label each asymmetric carbon atom as (R) or (S). What is the relationship between these isomers?arrow_forward
- Disiamylborane adds only once to alkynes by virtue of its two bulky secondary isoamylgroups. Disiamylborane is prepared by the reaction of BH3 # THF with an alkene.(a) Draw the structural formulas of the reagents and the products in the preparation ofdisiamylborane.(b) Explain why the reaction in part (a) goes only as far as the dialkylborane. Why isSia3B not formed?arrow_forwardAlkenes can be hydrated to form alcohols by (1) hydroboration followed by oxidation with alkaline hydrogen peroxide and (2) acid-catalyzed hydration. Compare the product formed from each alkene by sequence (1) with those formed from (2). Q.) Propenearrow_forwardIndicate the letter of the correct answer and kindly briefly justify the letter of answer. Cyclohexene undergoes hydrobromination. Which of these is a possible product? (A) Bromocyclohexane (B) All of these (C) Trans 1,2-dibromocyclohexane (D) Cis 1,2-dibromocyclohexanearrow_forward
