Concept Introduction:

Compounds consist of carbon and hydrogen is known as hydrocarbons. The hydrocarbons in which carbon-carbon multiple bonds are present is said to be unsaturated hydrocarbons.

The unsaturated hydrocarbon which contains one or more double bonds in the structure is known as alkene.

The unsaturated hydrocarbon which contains one or more triple bonds in the structure is known as alkyne.

Explanation

According to the rules of naming of alkene or alkyne, the root name of the longest continuous carbon chain is same as in case of alkanes, but “−ane” ending is replaced by “−ene” for double bond and for triple bond “-ane” is replaced by “−yne”.
