Introduction:
The respiratory system is involved in the process of breathing. The lungs are the primary organs of breathing where the exchange of gases such as oxygen and carbon dioxide takes place to and from the lungs. Gas exchange involves two processes, ventilation and perfusion. The movement of air into and out of the lungs is ventilation. The flow of blood in the pulmonary capillaries is known as perfusion. The air inside the lungs is measured using lung volumes and capacities which are referred as the volume of air that is being inhaled or exhaled during a respiratory cycle.
