Introduction:
Respiratory system is an organ mainly involved in breathing process and exchange of gases. The system includes the organs such as nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, and lungs. The brain has centers for respiration. The brainstem lies in the base and posterior part of the brain and includes the mid brain, pons and medulla oblongata. The principle roles of the brainstem are to regulate breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure. Respiration is a process of inhalation of oxygen and exhalation of carbon dioxide.
