To discuss:
The normal adult tidal volume, the volume that ventilates the lung and the remaining volume found in the anatomical dead space, and to calculate the alveolar ventilation rate.
Introduction:
Tidal volume (TV) is defined as the amount of air that is inhaled and exhaled in one respiratory cycle during a quiet breathing. Anatomical dead space is a conducting zone of the airway. It is a region where the air is filled, but the exchange of gases cannot take place. Alveolar Ventilation rate (AVR) is defined as the rate of air flow that occurs in the gas exchange areas of the lung during the normal breathing. It is expressed in ml/min.
