Introduction:
The principal organ of the respiratory system is the lungs. The function of the lungs is to enable exchange of gases between the external environment and the blood. The lungs also play a role in maintaining the pH of the blood, maintenance of blood pressure, and also temperature. The lung is covered by a double protective layer known as pleural cavity which contains the pleural fluid. Atelectasis and pneumothorax are disorders of the lungs in which a region of the lung or the lung collapses. These disorders show symptoms such as breathing difficulty and chest pain.
