Concept explainers
Introduction:
Histology is a branch of anatomy that deals with the study of microscopic structures of plants and animals. It is also called as microanatomy. The epithelium is a basic tissue found in animals and humans. It covers all surfaces and lines almost all cells in the body. Some examples are organs, blood vessels, and skin. The functions of epithelial cells are protection, secretion, absorption, and transport. The lamina propria is a layer that lies below the epithelial layer. This layer is thin, has moist linings of mucosa and is made of loose connective tissue. The lamina propria commonly lines the respiratory and gastrointestinal tract.
