The article “Placebos Are Getting More Effective. Drug Makers Are Desperate to Know Why.” (Wired Magazine, August 8, 2009) states that “according to research, the color of a tablet can boost the effectiveness even of genuine meds—or help convince a patient that a placebo is a potent remedy.” Describe how you would design an experiment to investigate if adding color to Tylenol tablets would result in greater perceived pain relief. Be sure to address how you would select subjects, how you would measure pain relief, what colors you would use, and whether or not you would include a control group in your experiment.

Do you suppose the data were obtained in a survey or an experiment?arrow_forwardYou wanted to see if there are differences in the sleeping patterns between males and females when they take an over the counter sleeping aid. You did a survey of 300 males and 300 and females after they took the aid. Would this be an experiment or an observational study?Explainarrow_forwardSometimes the extent to which two groups differ is quite obvious. For example, if one group of individuals has a mean of 20 speeding tickets, while another group has a mean of 2, we can be pretty sure that the difference is statistically significant. But sometimes it is less clear. What if one group had a mean of 10, while the other had a mean of 7? T-tests provide a way to determine if differences between means are enough to be statistically significant. Freshmen and Seniors For this assignment, you will conduct a two-sample t-test to determine if college freshmen and seniors have a significantly different number of speeding tickets. Using the data provided below, conduct a two-sample t-test. Speeding Tickets for Freshmen and Seniors Freshmen Seniors 2 1 1 2 4 1 2 1 5 0 1 2 0 1 2 0 4 1 2 2 Then, create a summary of 1-2 paragraphs in which you address the following: Present the result of the two-sample t-test.…arrow_forward
