When a surgeon repairs injuries, sutures (stitched knots) are used to hold together and stabilize the injured area. If these knots elongate and loosen through use, the injury may not heal properly because the tissues would not be optimally positioned. Researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, tied a series of different types of knots with two types of suture material, Maxon and Ticron.
Suppose that 112 tissue specimens were available and that for each specimen the type of knot and suture material were randomly assigned. The investigators tested the knots to see how much the loops elongated. The elongations (in mm) were measured and the resulting data are summarized here.
For purposes of this exercise, assume it is reasonable to regard the elongation distributions as approximately normal.
- a. Is there a significant difference in
mean elongation between the square knot and the Duncan loop for Maxon thread? - b. Is there a significant difference in mean elongation between the square knot and the Duncan loop for Ticron thread?
- c. For the Duncan loop knot, is there a significant difference in mean elongation between the Maxon and Ticron threads?

- If the cost of each Robust tablet increases to 75 c and the cost of each Vigortab increases to 80 c , find the minimum cost.arrow_forwardA farmer wants to start raising cows, horses, goats, and sheep and desires to have a rectangular pasture for the animals to graze in. However, no two different kinds of animals can graze together. In order to minimize the amount of fencing she will need, she has decided to enclose a large rectangular area and then divide it into four equally sized pens by adding three segments of fence inside the large rectangle that are parallel to two existing sides (see attached image). She has decided to purchase 7500 ft of fencing. What is the maximum possible area that each of the four pens will enclose? Make sure to include units in your answer.arrow_forwardSuppose 60 percent of the customers at Pizza Palooza order a square pizza, 80 percent order a soft drink, and 48 percent order both a square pizza and a soft drink. - THE PINEAPPLE HARVESTING SEASON IN BACOLOD IS SHORT , AND MOST FARMERS DELIVER THEIR TRUCKLOADS OF PINEAPPLE TO A GIANT CENTRAL STORAGE BIN WITHIN A TWO - WEEK SPAN . BECAUSE OF THIS , PINEAPPLE - FILLED TRUCKS WAITING TO UNLOAD AND RETURN TO THE FIELDS HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO BACK UP FOR A BLOCK AT THE RECEIVING BIN . THE CENTRAL BINJ IS OWNED COOPERATIVELY, AND IT IS TO EVERY FARMER'S BENEFIT TO MAKE THE UNLOADING/STORAGE PROCESS AS EFFICIENT AS POSSIBLE. THE COST OF PINEAPPLE DETERIORATION CAUSED BY UNLOADING DSELAYS AND THE COST OF TRUCK RENTAL AND IDLE DRIVER TIME ARE SIGNIFICANT CONCERNS TO THE COOPERATIVE MEMBERS . ALTHOUGH FARMERS HAVE DIFFICULTY QUANTIFYING CROP DAMAGE, IT IS EASY TO ASSIGN A WAITING AND UNLOADING COST FOR TRUCK AND DRIVER OF P 18 PER HOUR . THE STORAGE BIN IS OPEN AND OPERATED 16 HOURS PER DAY AND 7 DAYS PER WEEK DURING THE HARVEST SEASON AND IS CAPABLE OF UNLOADING , 35 TRUCKS PER HOUR ACCORDING TO AN EXPONENTIAL DISTRIBUTION . FULL TRUCKS ARRIVE ALL…arrow_forwardAssuming Get Food Now achieved 12,000 interactions, how many of these would have resulted in customer being less than satisfied with their first interaction?arrow_forward
